“Mukta”
Surrounded by the Indian Ocean, Kerala, with its balmy beaches, flourishing backwaters and rivers – makes a paradise for any swimmer. Though Kerala is the birth place of timeless practices like yoga and ayurveda, swimming on the contrary seems to be completely foreign (despite the genuine interest to emerge into water.)
Since, facilities to practice swimming are available for the very fortunate few – The Aquatic NGO’s mission is to change that. A drastic 14 % of all unnatural deaths in Kerala are caused by drownings and regardless of what the world is going through, we do believe that spreading water safety awareness, giving teacher training courses sharing the skill from one generation to the next and organise certified lifeguard training (leading to sustainable career possibilities). That was a long sentence… In summary;
At Mukta swimming school we really would be swimming for a better tomorrow.
Our first step is to fund and eventually build a non profit, low profile and environmentally friendly swimming school facility (as drawn below by Architect Nicola Prandini) somewhere in the city of Kochi.
Since we come from the sea, we must not forget our connection with it. There is a lot to learn from the sea, like a father. Through education we can empower the youth to have a future they truly deserve on planet earth!
If you believe that swimming is a liberating, empowering, fundamental lifelong life saving skill and somewhat keen in getting involved or have someone in mind who would (with this crazy project like this) please write us, or them, an email. Describe how and why you’d like to join the team and I’ll get back to you. Sincerely yours, Amos Hagelstam-Tanttu (swimmer and swimming teacher)
Ps. Let’s give kids a chance to kickstart their very own life long aquatic journey!
